Restoration came first. The original timber villa, cared for and made whole again, before anything new was added. Simple, quiet, with a Scandinavian sense of restraint.
Its original central hallway now leads you somewhere new. At its end, a contemporary pavilion opens onto a courtyard.
The plan follows the sun. Morning light from the east, long afternoon light from the west, both drawn in through a glass gable and filtered through louvres above. The house turns towards its site rather than away from it.
When the doors slide back, inside and outside become one room. A fire in the courtyard for cool evenings. Somewhere to read, somewhere to talk, somewhere to simply be together.
